Project Background

We first met the buyer at the Canton Fair. Later that evening, the buyer sent an urgent enquiry for thick-wall square and rectangular hollow sections for a construction project in Türkiye. We prepared the initial quotation that night so the technical and delivery discussion could begin without delay.

Before placing the order, the project procurement team wanted to visit the factory and arrange an independent third-party review. The buyer visited our Tianjin production partner, where we introduced the production facilities and laboratory. A separate third party also reviewed the factory. After the visit, the buyer sent the complete enquiry for final confirmation.

Confirming the Hollow Section Details

The order covered three thick-wall section sizes:

  • 100 x 100 x 12 x 8,700 mm
  • 100 x 300 x 12 x 8,000 mm
  • 100 x 150 x 12 x 12,000 mm

The project requirement listed EN 10219 and S235JR steel. During technical confirmation, particular attention was given to the 12 mm wall thickness, section dimensions and corner profile. These details were clarified before production planning so that the factory, buyer and inspection party could work from the same purchasing information.

The supplied project record does not state the order quantity, dimensional tolerances, individual piece weights or the edition of EN 10219 used in the contract. Those details have therefore not been inferred in this case study.

Factory Visit and Third-Party Review

The factory visit took place before the order was finalized. It allowed the buyer to see the production environment and discuss the thick-wall sections directly with the people responsible for manufacturing and quality follow-up.

The independent factory review was a separate step. Later, a third-party inspection was also arranged around the production and shipment schedule. The available case materials do not include the inspection report, sampling plan, measured values or formal release wording, so this article does not claim a specific inspection result.

Production and Inspection Coordination

The schedule became more sensitive as production approached the Chinese New Year period. We coordinated with the buyer, factory, inspection company and shipping team to secure the earliest practical inspection window and keep the finished material moving toward the port.

The factory placed the order into its priority follow-up queue. Transport was arranged in advance so the truck could collect the released material on the same afternoon, reducing the delay between inspection activity and inland dispatch.

Dispatch to Qingdao and Shipment to Türkiye

Inland transport, export documents and port arrangements were handled in parallel. The hollow sections were dispatched toward Qingdao for a direct sailing, and the shipment date recorded for the project was January 16, 2025.

The recorded sea transit to Türkiye was slightly more than 30 days. The project source does not include the vessel name, bill of lading details, discharge port or delivery date, so those details are not presented here.

Notes for Similar Hollow Section Buyers

For thick-wall square and rectangular hollow sections, an enquiry should identify the outside dimensions, wall thickness, length, steel grade and applicable standard. Requirements for corner radius, dimensional tolerance, end condition, surface condition, marking and packing should also be stated before quotation.

If a factory visit or third-party inspection is required, define the inspection scope, sampling method, acceptance criteria and document format early. Coordinating these requirements before production helps the factory reserve time for checks and gives the shipping team a clearer basis for arranging inland transport and vessel schedules.
